iglidur® high-performance polymer bearings

Excellent polymers improved by precisely harmonized additions of strengthening materials and solid lubricants, tested a thousand times and proved a million times - that is iglidur®. igus® engineers develop more than 100 new plastic compounds every year, test the maintenance-free plain bearings in more than 5,000 experiments per year and have built up a comprehensive database about tribological properties of the polymers in the past years. Today this database makes it possible for us to judge most of the applications beforehand and to assess the expected service life, so that reliability and safety of application are offered to the user.

Install and forget

Based on the results of several thousands of empirical tests, today we can provide reliable details regarding the service life of iglidur® bearings. The data of our tests also enable us to recommend the most suitable shaft material.

Top quality materials in the injection molding

There is hardly another base material that can be comparably altered and adapted in the properties. Thermoplastics can be provided with lubricants and can be mechanically reinforced in a significant way by technical fibers, or strongly altered by other filling materials, particularly with regard to friction and wear behavior.

Bearings should last long and cost less

igus® develops materials that fulfill the requirements of maintenance-free bearings:

Bearings should take high loads, partly beyond the years.

Maintenance-free bearings should have low coefficients of friction.

Their wear resistance should guarantee the application for a long time.

Disadvantages of plastics can be substantially reduced both by the material development and the design of the bearing. Thus the iglidur® bearings are thin-walled, and some materials feature a particularly high heat conductivity. Both facilitate the rapid heat flow and thereby directly enhance the load capacity of the bearing.
